Profumo
I pezzi nascono da legno appena tagliato.
Vengono torniti quando la materia è ancora instabile, carica di acqua, non ancora definita.
In questa condizione, la forma non può essere fissata.
Può solo essere avviata.
La lavorazione incide una direzione, attraversa la struttura del legno, entra nei suoi anelli.
Ma è un passaggio breve.
Dopo, il legno continua da solo.
Si ritira, si deforma, si apre. A volte in modo lento, quasi impercettibile; altre volte in modo evidente. Non c’è un momento preciso in cui il processo si conclude.
L’intervento si ferma prima.
Non per rinuncia, ma per lasciare che il tempo entri nel lavoro.
Quello che resta non è un oggetto finito, ma una condizione in trasformazione.
Una forma che trattiene una direzione, senza riuscire a stabilizzarla del tutto.
“Profumo” non indica una qualità superficiale.
È piuttosto qualcosa che si diffonde, che non coincide con la forma e non può essere trattenuto.
Come il movimento del legno, continua oltre il gesto che lo ha generato.
The pieces are made from freshly cut wood.
They are turned while the material is still unstable, full of moisture, not yet defined.
In this condition, form cannot be fixed.
It can only be initiated.
The process inscribes a direction, moves through the structure of the wood, enters its growth rings.
But it is a brief passage.
Afterwards, the wood continues on its own.
It shrinks, warps, opens. Sometimes slowly, almost imperceptibly; at other times more visibly. There is no precise moment when the process comes to an end.
The intervention stops earlier.
Not out of renunciation, but to allow time to enter the work.
What remains is not a finished object, but a condition in transformation.
A form that holds a direction without ever fully stabilizing.
“Profumo” does not refer to a superficial quality.
It is rather something that diffuses, that does not coincide with form and cannot be contained.
Like the movement of the wood, it continues beyond the gesture that generated it.
